Red River Working Dogs/Greater Dallas Working Dog Club
-- a dual DVG and USCA Club
Welcome to Red River Working Dogs (also the home of the Greater Dallas Working Dog Club), a dual DVG/USCA club located in and dedicated to serving the working dog community of Texoma (north Texas and southern Oklahoma). We pride ourselves on having helpful, positive, supportive and friendly-competitive attitudes and a steady focus on helping each Team Member and their Dog be the best they can be.
Our training facility is in Savoy, Texas, about 20 minutes east of Sherman, Texas, just two miles south of the Red River. The Red River Working Dogs Club is a full member club of the DVG Midwest Krisgruppe (Region) which encompasses AR, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, OK, SD, TN, TX and WI. Our mission is to support, promote, and organize working dog sport activities (training, seminars, and competitions) as set forth by the DVG and the FCI, via the training and titling of dogs in the sport of Schutzhund now called IGP.
The DVG – Deutscher Verband der Gebrauchshundsportvereine (German organization of working dog sport clubs) is the largest working dog organization in the world. It is also the oldest Schutzhund training organization in the world. It has over 30,000 members participating in many different dog sports.
The USCA -- United Schutzhund Clubs of America -- is an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the German Shepherd Dog’s working heritage by hosting conformation shows, breed surveys, and Schutzhund trials. These “exams” are major contributors in ensuring that we consistently breed only the finest dogs and ensure that the German Shepherd dog continues to be the best and most versatile breed. The USCA is a member club of the World Union of German Shepherd Dog Clubs (WUSV) and the American Working Dog Federation (AWDF). Through these memberships, USCA offers members:
- Valuable resources about the German Shepherd Dog
- Access to some of the top trainers in the world
- Local, regional, national, and international trials and shows
- Assistance with breeding programs and breeding selections
- Programs – Judges, helpers, tracklayers, youth, etc.
- Six magazines a year filled with information on the German Shepherd Dog
Our club members range from folks new to the sport to experienced dog handlers working to elevate their performance in the sport. Because we are also a DVG club, our club members own a variety of breeds, including but not limited to German Shepherds, Dobermanns, and Bouviers.
Our club is extraordinarily fortunate to have as our Training Director, the renowned and very successful trainer, coach and competitor, Joanne Fleming-Plumb. We believe we are that hard to find dual DVG/USCA club with internationally-credentialed leadership that has experience and success working with multiple breeds, drive levels, and training approaches in such a way that with hard work and dedication, each dog and handler can become the best they can possibly be.
